The weather was hot with a perfect south wind.  There was plenty of water on the course at at the finish line and lots of great Flying 'M' Athletic Club volunteers to make sure everyone had the best race possible.

Flying 'M' athletes arrived in Edmonton on July 6, 2016 with a purpose!

They were there to compete at the 2016 National Track and Field Championships/Olympic Trials.  Competition began Thursday morning and continued throughout the weekend to Sunday afternoon.  The athletes competing at this year's National Championships included Jared Allary, Michelle Ocran, Alexa Matwyczuk, Taylor Heald, Rebekah Eckert and Jason McDonald.

Highlights from the weekend included a major personal best in the Junior Men's Hammer throw from Jared Allary (46.80m) placing him 12th overall, an 8th place finish by Jason McDonald in the Senior Men's Shot Put, and to top off the weekend, our Junior female athletes bringing home the hardware.

Taylor Heald, Manitoba record holder in the shot put, discus and javelin, is a youth athlete competing at her first National Junior Championship.  Taylor was a double medallist, bringing home the silver medals in both the Junior Women's Shot Put (12.90m) and the Junior Women's Discus (46.29m).

Rebekah Eckert, the new provincial record holder in the Junior Women's Triple Jump, put together a big 12.08m jump to win the Junior Women's Triple Jump.

Congrats to the Flying 'M' athletes who showed the country the power, strength and commitment from our small club in Manitoba.

We have to thank our coaches and our support crew for the great experience and are looking forward to next year's National Championships in Ottawa, ON.
